How To Serve God Through Your Business

Many people see business as a purely numbers game. It’s all about how you bring in profit.

But that isn’t necessarily serving God. While it can be a lot of fun to make money, it doesn’t mean you’re bringing the Kingdom of Heaven down to Earth.

It’s at this point where it can pay dividends to simply sit down and reflect on what you’re doing. You need to earn a living, but you also want to ensure that what you’re doing is ethical and is genuinely serving the people around you.

The question, of course, is what that looks like in practice. Fortunately, this post is here to help you find out. We look at some of the strategies and tactics you can use to build a business ethically and make the world a better place.

Be Honest In Your Operations

While it might be challenging, you always want to be honest in your business dealings if you’re trying to run a Kingdom-minded enterprise. Being dishonest goes against teachings and isn’t something you want to do in general (for reputational issues).

Therefore, focus on honesty, both in yourself and in your team. This approach to work will help you build the trust and social capital you need to thrive.

If you can insert some Godly principles into the mix, that’s even better. These will help ensure that you stay on the right path and avoid temptation.

Give More

Another thing you can do to serve higher powers in your business is to give more. The more you practice this, the better it will make you feel.

Profits are great, but you want to avoid spending every penny on yourself. Instead, it should be business policy to provide some of your winnings to charity.

Previously, businesses were expected to do this. Most owners set aside 10% to charity and then kept the rest for their families. Today, you don’t see many companies doing that, especially those in the Fortune 500. However, it does still happen, and it can be a great way to bring the Kingdom here to Earth.

Make Servant Leadership A Priority

Central to being Kingdom-minded is servant leadership. This is the idea that you should serve others first by leading them, rather than lauding it over them.

In fact, it is arguably this principle more than any other that marks Western civilization apart from all others. We still have “civil servants” because the idea is that they are only in a position of authority so that they can serve the public. Most of the rest of the world still lives by “might is right” so this principle doesn’t apply.

How do you do this in your business? The best way is to listen to employees and think about how you might empower them. If you can be supportive and give them the opportunities that they need to thrive, then you can often go a long way.

If you can lead by spiritual example, that’s also a good idea. When you align yourself in this way, you’ll start seeing your business and people bearing fruits, and you may get much further than you ever expected, which can be exciting.

Make The Workplace Culture Positive

Related to this last point, it’s a good idea to do whatever you can to make the workplace culture positive. If there is negativity, then it won’t feel like you’re bringing the Kingdom to Earth at all. In fact, it’ll probably just feel like a regular business and people won’t be able to tell the difference between what you do, and what any other business does.

To avoid this, make sure that your culture is faith-based and reflective. Ensure that people in senior leadership positions have been fully vetted and aren’t just pursuing selfishness or their own foolish pride. Provide prayer rooms if you need to so that employees have an outlet.

Consult With A Strategist

You also want to go to a Kingdom business marketing strategist if you’re finding it hard to change your business. Sometimes, these individuals have the knowledge and experience you need to push through a difficult spot and discover where you should head next.

Remember, you will encounter situations in your business where you wonder whether you are doing God’s work. That’s actually quite normal and something that a lot of people who have a faith struggle with.

Therefore, it is well worth talking to an authority on these matters who has dealt with them before. This person can serve as a guide and show you how to proceed.

Mentor Others

If you can mentor others, that’s also a great idea. Getting behind them 100% and believing in their capacities is often what makes them real.

Mentoring is challenging and something that takes time. But it can have an extraordinary impact on the person benefiting from it, changing their outlook and helping them feel more confident in their abilities.

When mentoring, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to guide them in the ways of the Kingdom. You’ll be able to take faith-based approaches with them and steer them away from many of the trappings of the world.

Ask For Guidance

You might also want to try praying for guidance when you face difficult business decisions. Sometimes, this action can be extremely helpful for providing clarity in difficult situations where it isn’t clear what you should do next.

Asking for guidance like this can actually be a form of competitive advantage. Many entrepreneurs simply plow on and never take the time to reflect, but you don’t need to be among them.

Light Up The Marketplace

Finally, you might look for ways to treat your customers better and give them a better deal than your competitors. Instead of operating on the basis of fear and mistrust, you might take a difficult cultural approach.

Remember, a lot of businesses in your industry will be in the wrong place spiritually. If you do things differently from them, you will immediately stand out and people will notice.
